Consulting.com is an online training company that teaches aspiring entrepreneurs how to launch their own 6-figure businesses.
Founded by Sam Ovens in 2012, the company was originally headquartered in New York City before relocating to El Segundo, California in 2019 (above).
Here’s the deal:
According to Consulting.com, the company has more than 20,000 students — 52 of them millionaires — who’ve earned more than $690 million in revenue.
If those numbers are even half accurate, that’s impressive.
(That’s a big IF though.)
And it does beg the question:
What in the name of Sam Ovens are these students being taught to earn so much damn money?

According to Sam, consulting includes any type of business-related service ranging from done-for-you client services to selling online coaching programs and everything in between.
So in Mr. Ovens world, that basically includes every type of service-based business under the sun.
His personality seems to resonate with a lot of people and his programs have made quite the splash in the online world.

Who is Sam Ovens?
Before we jump into this:
Do yourself a favor and read this Sam Ovens bio all the way through.
Like him or not, there’s a ton of entrepreneurial gold nuggets you can learn from his story (I sure did).
Sam Ovens was born on August 10th, 1989 in Auckland, New Zealand.
From growing up in a blue-collar, working-class family, he was taught to “keep my head down, live frugally, and pursue the traditional white-collar path of college into a corporate job.”
And he did just that.
While attending college, he got an internship at Vodafone in an air-conditioned office and felt like he’d made it as a 21-year-old success story.

But then it happened:
One fateful weekend, Sam’s girlfriend invited him to a friend’s beach house which turned out to be on a private island at the northern tip of New Zealand.
It was owned by a super-wealthy businessman and the island had every luxury you can imagine, including priceless statues and even a helicopter pad.

Over the course of two days:
Sam Ovens got to spend a little time with the island’s owner who opened his eyes to the life and mindset of a successful entrepreneur.
Just like that, Sam’s definition of success was forever changed.
Then he made a decision that would impact the rest of his life:

When Sam returned from his life-changing island trip, he knew enough of the normal 9-to-5 lifestyle to know it wasn’t for him anymore.

He wasn’t sure if the concept would work, but Sam started brainstorming a piece of software that could solve their reporting problems once and for all.

After countless emails, phone calls and coffee meetings, he managed to get funding from several businesses to build the software he named SnapInspect.

During the time Sam was running his software biz, he started a digital marketing agency (SEO, web design) on the side to fund his struggling startup.

Think about it.

And Sam Ovens is very aware of that fact.

✗ Not all Sam Ovens reviews are rosy.
Here’s the thing:
Sam fully admits he used to personally “interview one of his customers” (aka record a video testimonial) at the beginning of every single work day.
More recently, his assistant has been conducting the interviews for him.
Can’t blame the guy.
I mean, Sam teaches you how to ask for referrals in his training videos.
So it’s no surprise that some of those “customer reviews” you see on his website aren’t exactly squeaky clean.
For example, here’s an excerpt from a comment I found during my research:
“… Then Sam sent me MANY emails promising an upgrade to a course that I could qualify for, merely by sending him a video about my experience.”
Let’s just call it an ethical bribe.
And he does have an affiliate program for anyone who purchases one of his courses, in which he’ll allow them to sell his program for a $500 commission.
Still, the overwhelming amount of positive reviews is impressive.
But just like any business guru, Sam Ovens has his fair share of pissed off customers and haters.
For example, you can find them on his Better Business Bureau page and Reddit.
Most of the complaints have to do with misleading claims, difficulty getting refunds, and arguing whether Sam’s a scam or not.
While that’s a typical accusation from online trolls, there are some red flags that indicate not all of Sam’s 3000+ testimonials are exactly genuine.

Bottom Line: Is Sam Ovens Really Legit?
He’s definitely NOT a complete fraud or scammer if that’s what you mean.
I’ve been following the guy for years and his business IQ is off the charts.
For example, watch Sam talk about “Death By 1,000 Cuts”:
If you made it through that 27-minute video, I’m sure you’ll agree that Ovens isn’t just… half-baked.
(See what I did there?)
But if you couldn’t make it through that long-winded video, you’re not gonna enjoy his 100+ hour courses.
Speaking of big numbers:
- Is Sam Ovens really worth $65 million as he claims? Impossible to verify but it’s fair to say he’s a multimillionaire.
- Does his Consulting.com business actually do 20 million+ per year? Honestly, I wouldn’t be surprised. Check out the FB post below showing Sam’s Stripe account from 2018 (nearly $2 million in monthly revenue).
- Are all of his 3,000+ video testimonials legit? I doubt it but I’m sure a bunch are genuine.
Here’s the thing:
It’s hard to differentiate between Sam’s paid affiliates and the folks who were asked for a review in exchange for a free upgrade… vs. his successful students.
The real question is:
Can Sam Ovens make YOU successful if you invest in his programs?
It completely depends on how much time and work you’re willing to put in.
But despite containing hundreds of hours of training material, Sam Ovens courses don’t actually give you any specialized consulting knowledge.
What Sam teaches you is how to use your existing knowledge, or go out there and attain specialized knowledge so you can sell a service or online course.
Which means that if you don’t have any experience or special skills… you have a LONG road ahead of you.
Yes, Sam will help you choose a niche but you still have to become somewhat of an expert in the field if you want to deliver quality results to your clients.
How do you do that?
Just pretend to know what you’re doing and use a free trial to lure ‘em in.
But you’re gonna need to do some serious research and figure out how to solve a big problem that your market is having.
You then need to figure out how to deliver your service, master Facebook ads, and be willing to make a *LOT* of sales calls.
That may sound simple but make no mistake:
All of this adds up to spending hundreds of hours learning the process and then hundreds more building your consulting business.
If you’re okay with that, Sam Ovens might be the perfect fit.
If he’s not your cup of tea?
Maybe you should look elsewhere.

I can’t believe no one has commented on your Sam Ovens review. This was the most god-honest unbiased review I have seen on Sam and I know so because I actually took his course.
It was gifted to me by a friend who purchased it and then realized she did not really want to be a consultant. I have been through the course myself and I also decided that I didn’t have that “special skill” yet, and I wasn’t ready to invest the time to acquire it, then go and start consulting on it.
So, I decided to do something different.
I’ve seen people calling Sam a scammer but as someone who’s been through every MLM and “make money online” scheme there is, I can honestly say that Sam’s training is the most legitimate training I’ve ever seen.
If one has a skill and doesn’t mind selling, they can make a boatload of money following his training. I just thought I should say that. Thanks.
