The Secretary General’s meeting with Mr. Alessandro Scotti, former Goodwill Ambassador of the UNODC |
Mr. Alessandro Scoti, former Goodwill Ambassador of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Organized Crime (UNODC) visited the ECO Secretariat, Tehran on 9th April, 2012. After brief discussion about the ECO-Drug and Organized Crime Coordination Unit (DOCCU), Mr. Alessandro explained his visit to Afghanistan, Iran, Pakistan and Tajikistan to document the complexities of the Afghan opium trade, including poppy cultivation, opium production, drug smuggling, border control and criminal justice response. He further mentioned his intention to organize a photo-exhibition in Tehran on the subject and requested ECO’s cooperation in this regard. In his remarks the Secretary General informed the Representative of UNODC in Tehran and the former Goodwill Ambassador that the ECO-DOCCU is implementing an EU-funded project on Fight Against Trafficking in the region and the matter for financial support can be taken up in the upcoming Steering Committee Meeting of the project’s partners schedule to take place in Berlin on 24-25 April, 2012. |
