4th ECO Minerals Experts Group Meeting was held on 24-26 May, 2011 in Karaj, Kerman, Iran. The opening ceremony of the meeting was held at the convention hall of Geological Survey of Iran (GSI) in Karaj.
The Geology and Mineral Exploration Organization of the Islamic Republic of Iran in cooperation with GSI and ECO Secretariat hosted this event. Representatives of Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Iran (host), Pakistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Turkey were participated in the meeting.
The purpose of the meeting was to discuss latest developments, implementation of the related activities, and future regional cooperation among ECO countries in the field of Minerals. The host country which is doing a lot of work in the field of Minerals gave detailed presentations of their achievements and provided the participants with information about their facilities, as well as technical site visits to "Sharcheshmer Copper Complex" and "Gol-e Gohar Iron Ore Company". New proposals were also proposed for enhancing of Member States future cooperation.
The meeting came to the conclusion that Member States should increase their cooperation and exchange with experiences on utilization of their Mineral Resources. It was also decided that such meetings should be conducted biennially. Meeting adopted its report.
The meeting also appreciated the offer of the Republic of Azerbaijan to host the next (5th) ECO Minerals Experts Group Meeting in Baku in 2012/13.
