ECO Secretary General's visit to the Institute of Environmental Science and Technology (IEST)

On 7 February 2011, ECO Secretary General accompanied by DSG for Administration and Director (EME) visited the premises of the Institute of Environmental Science and Technology (IEST) in Karaj. They were briefed by the concerned authorities of the Institute regarding its academic activities.
 

On the sideline of the visit, a Panel, comprising the Head of the Department of Environment of I.R. of Iran, H.E. Mr. Mohammadjavad Mohammadizadeh, on behalf of Chairman of CPR, Mr. Baris Kalkavan, Counsellor of the Embassy of the Republic of Turkey in Tehran, Permanent Representative of I.R. of Iran to ECO, H.E. Mr. Mousavi and the ECO Secretary General was held on 7 February, 2011 at the premises of the College of Environment, in Karaj. The Panel recommended Dr. Asghar Mohammadi Fazel, Adviser to the Head of the Environment Protection Organization and President of the Environment Institute for a Presidency of the ECO Institute of Environmental Science and Technology.
 

It may be noted that for the first stage, ECO Institute of Environmental Science and Technology organises the course supported by the Department of Environment of the Islamic Republic of Iran. The course will be in English. The Department of Environment of Iran provides 20 scholarships to outstanding applicants from the ECO region for participation in the programme, including accommodation and DSA. The program with duration of 3 months consists of the mandatory modules, which comprise the topics such as air pollution and climate change, management and treatment of water, oil and metal pollution, environmental monitoring, environmental management in industry, industrial waste management and pollution control, and etc. The main objective of this course is to “bridge” various initial competencies of the newcomer-students and equip them with skills necessary for further mastering environmental pollutions. Requirements for applicants will be communicated to the member states in due course.
