The representative of UNODC in Tehran, Mr. Antonino De Leo, visited the ECO Secretariat on 18th April, 2011.
The Secretary General, while welcoming Mr. De Leo, appreciated UNODC’s interest towards the activities of ECO in the field of drug and related organized crimes. The Secretary General briefed him about the ECO’s current programmes and planned activities of Drug and Organized Crime Coordination Unit (DOCCU) during the year 2011.
In his remarks, the Representative of UNODC expressed interest in establishing cooperative relations between ECO and the UNODC. He also briefed the Secretary General about the activities of UNODC Office in Tehran, particularly with reference to the ongoing UNODC Programme for Iran which relates to Drug Demand Reduction, Drug Supply Reduction and Rehabilitation Centers.
The ECO Secretary General emphasized the important role of the UNODC for the ECO region and stressed the need for continued cooperation in countering narcotics and transnational organized crimes.
