ECO Secretary General receives H.E. Mr. Miroslav JENCA of UN Regional Centre for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia Tehran, 11th April, 2011 |
The ECO Secretary General received H.E. Mr. Miroslav JENCA, Special Representative of the UN Secretary General and Head of the UN Regional Centre for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia at ECO Secretariat on 11th April, 2011. The two sides exchanged views on broad range of issues of mutual interest in particular efforts to promote peace, stability and economic development in ECO region. The Secretary General gave a brief overview of ECO’s programmes aimed at promoting socio-economic development in the region. He also informed about the role of ECO’s Specialized Agencies/Regional Institutions especially ECO Trade & Development Bank, ECO Chamber of Commerce & Industry and the ECO Cultural Institute in realization of ECO’s objectives. ECO’s cooperation with United Nations system and other regional and international organizations was also highlighted. In order to develop long-term cooperation, the two sides agreed to establish regular contacts and exchange information on matters of common interest especially Energy, Water Management, cross-border organized crime, terrorism and drugs control. The Secretary General also invited H.E. Mr. Miroslav JENCA to the forthcoming ECO Ministerial Meeting on Transport in Ashgabat. The Special Representative appreciated ECO’s active role in fostering regional cooperation. He also lauded ECO’s projects in the fields of Trade, Transport etc and remarked that these projects would make significant contributions towards sustainable peace & development in the region. |
