H.E. M. Yahya Maroofi, ECO Secretary General undertook an official visit to Pakistan from 19-20 December, 2011 to attend the 1^st Meeting of the Board of Trustees (BoT) of the ECO Science Foundation (ECOSF) preceded by High Level Experts Group (HLEG) Meetings. H.E Mr. M. Yahya Maroofi, ECO Secretary General called on H.E. Mrs. Hina Rabbani Khar, Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan and discussed matters of mutual interest.

The Secretary General briefed the Foreign Minister of Pakistan on key developments in ECO including establishment of the ECO Science Foundation.

 ECO Trade Agreement (ECOTA), the ECO Reinsurance Company, the importance of Pakistan as transport corridor, financial/budgetary matters of the organization and the forthcoming ECO Interior Ministers meeting in Islamabad were discussed.

The Foreign Minister assured Pakistan’s full support by stating that her government attaches great importance to regional bodies especially ECO and that her office will work closely with ECO on all matters leading to regional cooperation and integrity.
