The First ECO Workshop on Conformity Assessment was held in Tehran on 16-17 October 2011with attendance of delegates from the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, Republic of Azerbaijan, Islamic Republic of Iran, Republic of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, Islamic Republic of Pakistan, Republic of Tajikistan and Republic of Turkey at ECO Secretariat
The aim of the workshop was to provide the participants an opportunity to share experiences and exchanging the views for exploring the areas of cooperation and ways of collaboration in ECO region in line with international regulations such as ISO/IEC/17000.
H.E. Mr. Nezamuddin Barzegari, Deputy Minister of Industries and President of the Institute of Standards and Industrial Research of Iran (ISIRI) inaugurated the workshop. He welcomed the participants and stated the main objectives of the Workshop and underlined the need to identify the cooperation for choosing the most suitable strategies for unification of Conformity Assessment processes according to international standards. Mr. Ahmet Furkan, Director of Agriculture, Industry and Tourism of the also delivered a statement in which he emphasized the cooperation in field of standardization and expressed the hope that the workshop would provide a platform for exchanging information and experiences on the Conformity Assessment.
The workshop elaborated the areas of Testing and Certification of Products, Inspection and Certification of Management Systems and Persons which were focused on experiences of Islamic Republic of Iran and were shared and lengthy discussed with viewpoints and experiences of participants from Member States.
The Workshop came up with some recommendations and points of agreements for future course of action for ECO cooperation in the field of Conformity Assessment.
At the end, the participants paid a visit to the International goods Inspection (IGI) Company and Zar Industrial Group, Zar Macaron Co. as a part of the workshop.
