Nowruz Summit in Iran

Iran used an ancient new year (nowruz) celebration to reach out Afghanistan, Iraq and other neighbors on 27 March 2010, hosting them at a summit meeting.

 

The Secretary General of ECO participated the New Year Summit in Tehran on 27th March 2010 hosted by H.E. Mr. Mahmoud Ahmadinejat, the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran. Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Iraq, Taijikistan, Turkmenistan have attended at the Summit level. Turkey was represented at Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State level and some countries by special envoy and their ambassadors in Tehran.

 

Nowruz means ‘new year’, is a spring festival celebrated anciently in the region.

 

According to information, Nowruz, the day of the vernal equinox, is celebrated by more than 300 million people worldwide as the beginning of the new year. The celebration predates Islam, going back thousands of years to the time when Zoroastrianism— with its central theme of the struggle between good and evil sprits&mdash.
