On 15th February 2010, National Focal Points (NFP) of the Economic Cooperation Organization on Statistics and Economic Research met at their consecutive NFP Meeting in Antalya.
This important forum, inaugurated by H.E. Mr. Ferruh Tigli, Director General from the State Planning Organization of Republic of Turkey, discussed the pace of implementation of the regional cooperation mechanism by ECO National Statistical Offices (NSO). The reports of the Member States revealed that Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Iran and Tajikistan are leading on statistical cooperation. Development of the test version of ECO Statistical Network was noted a practical step.
The need to explore harmonization of the statistical methodology for ECO countries was proposed for the discussion at the upcoming 3rd High Level Expert Meeting of NSOs scheduled for October in Kabul.
On economic research, the 1st issue of the ECO Economic Journal was noted to have promising future as it reflects best academic and expert view available in the region on economic development of ECO.
International partner organizations participating in the NFPM have reiterated their commitment for a continued fruitful cooperation with ECO on projects in the field of statistics and economic research.
