Dr. Murat Yulek steered an enlightening brainstorming discussion on post crises macroeconomic trends in developing countries On 15th February 2010, Senior Government Officials from ten Member States of the Economic Cooperation Organization met at the Workshop in Antalya to exchange their views on the “Implications of the Global Economic and Financial Crisis for ECO economies.” This important forum hosted by the State Planning Organization of Republic of Turkey and Dr. Murat Yulek opened the discussion with his comprehensive presentation on macroeconomic trends in developing countries. He moderated the brainstorming session providing precise answers to numerous queries of participants on global macroeconomic fundamentals. At micro level, ECO countries’ economic performance for the past period was presented through an in-depth analysis of the Chief Economist of ECO Trade and Development Bank Mr. Omer Faruk Baykal. In deliberations, participants voiced their views on major challenges for ECO economies in the near, middle and long term economic development. The Workshop resulted in a set of succinct practical recommendations offered for the guidance of ECO economies at times of potential future crises. These derived from lessons learned from past experiences in the region, based on Turkey’s example, as well as on that of world. Participants wished economic competitiveness to have been increased in near term. This was looked on as one of promising perspectives for mid-term balanced growth in the region.
