Secretary General’s meeting with the UNODC Representative in Tehran 21st April, 2010 |
H.E. Mr. Antonino De leo, the representative of UNODC in Tehran, visited the Secretariat on 21st April, 2010 to have a meeting with the Secretary General. The ECO Secretary General while welcoming Mr. De Leo at the Secretariat appreciated UNODC’s interest towards the activities of ECO. The Secretary General briefed him about the ECO’s current programmes and planned activities of Drug and Organized Crime Coordination Unit (DOCCU) during the year 2010. He appreciated the UNODC for assisting the Secretariat to establish DOCCU which is now a permanent Unit of this Organization. He further stated that security and stability in ECO region are important issues for economic progress and development and stressed the need for continued cooperation in countering terrorism, narcotics and transnational organized crimes. The Representative of UNODC in Tehran expressed interest in establishing cooperative relations between ECO and the UNODC. He briefed the Secretary General about the activities of UNODC Office in Tehran. He invited the Secretary General to participate in the site visit of Triangular Clinic on Prevention of HIV/AIDS to be held in one of the prisons of the Islamic Republic of Iran on 29th April, 2010. He also informed a proposed visit to the border between Iran and Turkey (Bazargan Border). The Secretary General welcomed the proposal to participate in the above events. |
