The Secretary General of ECO Confers with H.E. The Secretary General of OIC in the Course of the Afghanistan Summit in Istanbul
Regional Summit Meeting of Afghanistan and Neighbors was held on January 26, 2010 in Istanbul, Turkey and the contribution to the Summit was at presidential level. The President of the Republic of Turkey, H.E. Mr.Abdullah Gul, the President of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, H.E.Mr. Hamid Karzai, and the President of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, H.E.Mr. Asif Ali Zerdari had the opening statements. Representatives of non regional countries and the Secretary General of ECO H.E. Mr. Mohammed Yahya Maroofi and the Secretary General of Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) H.E. Prof. Dr. Ekmelettin Ihsanoglu were also present at the Summit as observers.
The Secretary General in his statement to the Summit renewed ECO’s strong commitment to the reconstruction efforts of Afghanistan, as well as reported on the recent activities of the organization concerning the implementations of reconstruction projects. He requested the Member States for further contribution to the reconstruction funds established in 12th COM Meeting.
