The Head of UNAMA Liason Office in İran, Mr. Bruce Koepke paid a call to the Secretary General, H.E. Mr. Mohammed Yahya Maroofi on January 20, 2010. The Secretary General explained the important role of ECO as a regional coordinator on issues such as transport, sustainable development, trade and investment, agriculture, disaster prevention and anti narcotics.
They discussed the upcoming Istanbul Summit on Afghanistan to be held on January 26, 2010. The Secretary General considered this summit as an important occasion to provide the opportunity to scrutinize the pressing issues of the region and reach the necessary political decisions. They exchanged views on the London Conference on Afghanistan on January 28, 2010. The Secretary General stressed ECO’s contribution to the reconstruction efforts in Afghanistan.
Mr. Bruce Koepke expressed his wish to maintain the existing closer cooperation with the ECO projects.
