Second Study Tour for Health Authorities of ECO Member States

(7-11 June 2010, Turkey)


The 2nd Study Tour for Health Authorities of ECO Member States was organized by the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Turkey and the Turkish International Cooperation Agency (TIKA) in collaboration with the ECO Secretariat from 7-11 June 2010, in Turkey (Ankara and Istanbul).

Delegates from all of the 10 ECO Member States namely the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Islamic Republic of Iran, the Republic of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, the Republic of Tajikistan, the Republic of Turkey (host), Turkmenistan and the Republic of Uzbekistan as well as the relevant officials of the TIKA and the ECO Secretariat participated in the Study Tour.

 The aim of the Study Tour was to exchange information, share experiences and successes and promote cooperation among the health authorities of ECO Member States in the areas of reproductive healthcare mainly mother and child health and family planning. During the tour, participants witnessed the achievements and experiences of Turkey in the health sector with a particular focus on the above fields. This Study Tour included orientation sessions, presentations including country reports by the participants and field visits to public hospitals as well as private hospital in Ankara and Istanbul, Turkey.  Question and answer sessions were held after each briefing and tour of various facilities/hospitals.

 During the four day Study Tour, delegates visited Zekai Tahir Burak Women’s Hospital and Zubeyda Hanim women’s hospital in Ankara; Zeynep Kamil Women and Children’s Research and Training Hospital and ACIBADEM  Maslak Hospital in Istanbul.

 The participants were impressed to see the developments made by Turkey in the health sector and appreciated the host authorities for making arrangements for this study tour.
