The First ECO Health Ministerial Meeting was held on 5th February 2010 in Baku, the Republic of Azerbaijan. The Meeting was preceded by Senior Officials Meeting on 4th February 2010. Health Ministers/Representatives from Afghanistan, Azerbaijan and Iran, Kazakhstan, Pakistan, Tajikistan and Turkey participated in the meeting.  The representatives of international organizations such as UNFPA, WHO, UNICEF, World Bank, Global Fund and International Red Cross also attended the meeting.

 His Excellency Ogtay Shiraliyev, Minister of Health of the Republic of Azerbaijan, inaugurated the Meeting. He highlighted the significance of health for development of the economies of the countries. He also emphasized the need to promote the image of ECO as a regional organization in the international community. Mr. Mohammed Yahya Maroofi, the ECO Secretary General in his statement to the conference explained the health cooperation in ECO during previous years and reiterated the importance of backing and support of the Member States for the success and the effective implementation of the health programs.

The participants discussed the current status of health cooperation in the region, exchanged ideas and evaluated the available potential for enhancing  cooperation particularly on health related Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), Blood Transfusion and Pharmaceuticals. The meeting adopted the Baku Declaration which identified main priority areas for health cooperation among the Member States.  

The Republic of Kazakhstan would host the Second Meeting of the ECO Health Ministers in 2011.
