A Workshop on Renewable Sources of Energy was held on 30 September – 1 October, 2009 in Ankara. The Ministry of Energy and Natural resources of the Republic of Turkey hosted this event. Representatives from seven ECO member states - Republic of Azerbaijan, Islamic Republic of Iran, Kyrgyz Republic, Islamic Republic of Pakistan, Republic of Tajikistan, Republic of Turkey (Host) and Turkmenistan participated in the Workshop.
The purpose of the Workshop was to share the knowledge, experiences in the field of renewable sources of energy and to highlight the need for exploring the possibilities of utilizing this source of energy. Participants expressed their views on the need for a continued training of relevant officials in the field. The participants from the Republic of Turkey, which has done a lot of work in the field of renewable energy sources, gave detailed presentations of their achievements and provided information about the training facilities they have from which other ECO Member States could benefit.
The workshop came to the conclusion that it was imperative that Member States should devote their resources to utilize the renewable sources of energy which are environment friendly. It was also decided that such Workshops should be conducted on yearly basis. Pakistan is expected to host the next Workshop.
