The Workshop on the System of National Accounts was held on 17-20 May 2009 in Tehran. The Statistical Center of Iran hosted the event. Representatives from seven ECO member states (Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Iran (Host Country), Tajikistan, Pakistan and Kyrgyz Republic participated in the event.
The representative of UNESCAP briefed the participants on the SNA-2008 revisions and regional initiatives. The representative of the ECO Trade and Development Bank also contributed to training sessions.
The goal of the Workshop was to follow up with updates on SNA-1993/2003/08 and highlight the need for applying international standards and classifications in statistics. Participants expressed their views on the need for a continued training on technology-based computation methodology for SNA.
The workshop came to be a practical step in setting up efficient linkages among National Statistical Offices through a harmonized data collection. As such the Workshop contributed to the objective of the ECO Statistical Network, which is to provide a common opportunity for ECO countries in exchange of statistical and economic data within the region.
