First Sectoral Exhibition on Printing and Packaging was held in Mashhad, the Islamic Republic of Iran on November 19-23, 2009. Two hundred Iranian companies and 40 companies from ECO Member States as well as Japan, Taiwan, Germany and France participated in the exhibition. The inaugural ceremony was attended by a large number of Iranian Parliamentarians. ECO Secretariat was represented by the Deputy Secretary General Mr. Fatih Unlu.
After the 2nd ECO Trade Fair held in Karachi, Pakistan, in July 2008, this sectoral fair was another major activity by the private sectors of the ECO Member States. The companies working in the following fields participated in the Exhibition:
- Pre Printing Systems
- Offset Printing Machinery
- Graver
- Silk Screen
- Book Binding Machinery
- Paper Producing Equipments
- Packaging Machines
Trade Fairs and Exhibitions provide an excellent opportunity to achieve the objectives of regional integration and expansion of trade. All regional Economic Organizations attach high importance to closer interaction among the business communities. Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO), after initiating necessary legal framework for integration of the ECO economies, in the shape of agreements covering trade, investment, customs cooperation, banking and visa facilitation, felt that the private sector activities may also be given more attention. The private sector can benefit greatly if supported in effective participation in fairs and exhibitions.
In order to serve the needs of manufacturers and exporters, the holding of ECO sectoral trade fair by all the Member States on rotational basis has to be made a regular annual activity. The events of shorter duration in non-traditional product/service sectors, can be ideal for providing most needed support to the business firms of the Member States.
