Regional Workshop on Development of Hydropower Plants

A Regional Workshop on Development of Hydropower Plants was held on 9-12 November, 2009 in Tehran and Esfahan. The opening ceremony of the workshop was held at the Convention hall of Iran Water and Power Development Resources Company.

The Regional Centre on Urban Water Management – Tehran in close cooperation with Iran Water and Power Resources Development Company and ECO Secretariat hosted this event. Representatives from six ECO Member States - Republic of Azerbaijan, Islamic Republic of Iran (host), Kyrgyz Republic, Republic of Pakistan, Republic of Tajikistan and Republic of Turkey  participated in the Workshop.

The purpose of the Workshop was to share with each other the knowledge, experiences in the field of Water Management and Development of Hydropower Plants and to highlight the need for future development. The host country, which has done a lot of work in the field of Hydropower, gave detailed presentations of their achievements and provided the participants with information about their facilities, as well as technical site visits to Karun-3 and Karun-4 Hydropower Plants.

The workshop came to the conclusion that it was imperative that Member States should devote their resources to utilize the Hydropower sources of energy which were not only cost effective but also environment friendly. It was also decided that such Workshops should be conducted annually. Workshop adopted its Report.
