153rd CPR Meeting and the Meeting of H.E Mr. Baghei, Vice President of Iran with the Ambassadors/Representatives of the ECO Member States

The ECO Council of Permanent Representatives (CPR) held its 153rd Meeting on 9th November, 2009 at the Niavaran Palace in Tehran. A segment of the meeting was attended by H. E. Mr. Baghaei, Vice President and Head of Iran’s Cultural Heritage, Tourism and Handcraft Organization (ICHTHO) and Head of Iran’s Free and Special Economic Zone. The Heads/Representatives of various free zones of Iran also participated in that segment. 

H.E. Mr. Baghei, the honourable Vice President of Iran in his statement highlighted the importance of the Free Zones in Iran and their potential to contribute towards further integration of the ECO region. While referring to trade and investment opportunities offered by the Government of Iran for the ECO Member States in these free zones, he stated that Iran’s Free Zones offered special packages in the areas of investment, transport, energy, banking and tourism. H.E. Mr. Baghei invited the Ambassadors/Representatives to visit the free zone areas to have a look on the state-of-the-art infrastructural facilities available in these zones. The Heads/representatives of Kish, Chabahar, Anzali, Aras, and Qeshm Free Zones made brief presentations on the opportunities offered by these free zones in different areas. The Secretary General, H.E. Mr. Mohammed Yahya Maroofi, in his statement appreciated Iran’s efforts to offer special concessions to the Member States in the free zones and hope that Member States would benefit from the special concessions offered by the Government of Iran.
