The Ambassador of Ukraine to Iran, H.E. Mr. Ihor Lohinov, called-on the Secretary General, on November 1, 2009. During the meeting he congratulated H.E. Mr. Mohammed Yahya Maroofi on assuming the responsibilities as the new Secretary General of ECO and wished him success during his tenure. He also appreciated the progress made by ECO as a regional organization in different fields, and offered collaboration in different areas especially Transport sector and Nanotechnology. He said that Ukraine has rich experience and expertise in the fields of Railways and Nanotechnology which can help establish cooperative relationship in a mutually beneficial manner. The Ambassador proposed to have expert-level meetings between ECO Secretariat and Ukraine to explore the possibilities of establishing cooperative relationship. The Secretary General thanked the Ambassador for his visit and gave an overview of the activities of Organization, its objectives, priorities and current programmes in different areas. He added that successful completion of ECO projects in different fields has enhanced ECO’s standing and stature as an effective regional Organization that has the capability to address the common needs of the region. ECO Secretariat welcomes the proposal to establish cooperative relationship with Ukraine in areas of mutual interest like Transport, Nanotechnology and Disaster Risk Reduction etc and is ready to engage with Ukrainian experts to explore the possibilities in this regard.
