The Third ECO Experts Group Meeting (EGM) on Standardization, Conformity Assessment, Accreditation and Metrology was held on 1-2 February, 2009 at ECO Secretariat in Tehran. The Meeting was hosted by the Institute of Standards and Industrial Research of Iran (ISIRI). Delegations from Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Iran, the Kyrgyz Republic, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Turkey, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan and officials of the ECO Secretariat and UNIDO participated in the Meeting.
The Meeting was inaugurated by H.E. Mr. Nezamuddin Barzegari, the Deputy Minister of Industries and Mines and President of the Institute of Standards and Industrial Research of Iran (ISIRI) and Mr. Mustafa Demirezen, Deputy Secretary General of ECO Secretariat.
The participants elaborated on the Draft Road Map for Provisional Implementation of RISCAM Statute and decided to submit it along with Draft RISCAM Statute to the forthcoming 18th COM for approval.
The meeting welcomed the offer of Iran and Turkey to host ECO specialized workshops on conformity assessment, standarization and accreditation. Kazakhstan was requested to host similar workshops in the field of metrology. Turkey suggested that it could also host a workshop on metrology in coordination with Kazakhstan.
The meeting emphasized the necessity of establising a specialized data-base and relevant web-site in the fields of standardization, conformity assessment, accreditation and metrology. It was decided that Interim Cooredination Unit would study the issue.
Turkey declared its readiness to host the 4th EGM on Standardization, Conformity Assessment, Accreditation and Metrology in the first half of 2010.
