The First Meeting of the En-Route Countries of the ECO Container Train on Istanbul-Almaty Route was held in Astana, on November 5, 2009, with the participation of delegations from all the ECO Member States, achieving full quorum. The representatives of the ECO Secretariat as well as delegations from IDB, OTIF, ADB, and UNESCAP attended the Meeting.
The Meeting decided on a range of matters for streamlining the operation of the ECO Container Train on Istanbul-Almaty Route. Those included, inter alia, consideration of Railway Tariffs and wagon use rates and other charges, consideration of applying the Common CIM/SMGS consignment note for international rail transport on the route, reviewing matters pertaining to customs clearance of the container train, adjustment of the technical specifications and parameters and review of the related investment projects. As per decisions of the Meeting, the ECO demonstration train on this route will be launched in July-August 2010.
