he 2nd Meeting of the Task Force on ECO Veterinary Commission (ECO-VECO) was held in Tehran on April 6-7, 2009. It was hosted by the Veterinary Organization of the Islamic Republic of Iran. The meeting was attended by delegates from the Azerbaijan, Iran, Pakistan and Turkey as well as representatives of ECO Secretariat and FAO.
The meeting revised the Draft Statute of ECO-VECO. The Draft Statute will be finalized by the 2nd Meeting of the ECO Heads of Veterinary Organizations scheduled for April 20-21, 2009, in Antalya, Turkey. It will then be considered by the Council of Permanent Representatives (CPR) for approval.
The meeting also prepared a Draft Road Map for the provisional implementation of the Statute of the ECO-VECO. It would facilitate the ground work for the implementation of the Statute.
According to the Road Map, an interim coordination unit will be established at the Secretariat. It would prepare draft Rules of Procedures, Staff Regulations and Financial Regulations. These would guide sessions of the Commission and ECO-VECO to achieve its objectives. The Draft Road Map would be submitted to the 2nd Meeting of the ECO Heads of Veterinary Organizations for consideration. The Road Map will be implemented after its approval by COM as well as the approval of the Statute.
