The 1st ECO Taskforce Meeting on Establishment of ECO Nanotechnology Network (ECO-NAN) was held on 20-21 May, 2008, in Tehran, and hosted by the Iran Nanotechnology Initiative Committee (INIC) and Technology Cooperation Office - Presidency of the Islamic Republic of Iran. Delegates from the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, the Islamic Republic of Iran, the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, and Turkmenistan as well as representatives of the ECO Secretariat, IDB and COMSTECH participated in the Meeting. His Excellency Sayyed Reza Sajjadi, Chairman, Technology Cooperation Office-Presidency of the Islamic Republic of Iran, inaugurated the meeting. Mr. Serik Alybayev, Deputy Secretary General of ECO Secretariat delivered welcome statement highlighting the main goals of establishing ECO Nanotechnology Network. The representative of the Islamic Republic of Iran made a presentation on the Project Proposal on Establishment of ECO Nanotechnology Network (ECO-NAN) highlighting its objectives and functions, basic activities, plans, primary steps, duration and budget of the project. The meeting, after lengthy deliberations, agreed on the Project Proposal and decided to submit it to the June meeting of ECO Council of Permanent Representatives (CPR) for approval and then to the 18th ECO Council of Ministers in November 2008 for final approval. The Taskforce came up with the following proposals:
The meeting discussed at length the draft Work Plan for the Establishment of Nanotechnology Network, prepared by the Islamic Republic of Iran, and made some modifications in it.
The meeting decided to continue its next meeting under the Steering Committee to be established as per Project Proposal. The date and venue of the first meeting of the Committee would be announced by the Secretariat after the necessary consultations with the member states. | |||
