The Economic Cooperation Organization and the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA) signed in Almaty, 25th August, 2005, a Memorandum of Understanding. It was signed on the sidelines of CICA Foreign Ministers' Meeting. The Meeting was inaugurated by the President of Kazakhstan and attended by the Foreign Ministers and representatives of twenty member states including eight ECO member states - Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Iran, Kyrgyzstan Kazakhstan( the host country), Pakistan, Tajikistan and, Turkey. Six other countries and some international and regional organization such as UN, IOM, ECO and SCO attended in the meeting as observer.
The MoU was signed by the ECO Secretary General Khurshid Anwar, and the Executive Director of CICA Mr. Dulat Bakishev. The MoU provides a legal basis for cooperation between two organizations in different areas of mutual interest. The Parties shall prepare a work programme to implement the MoU. The representatives of the two organizations would also be invited to important events of mutual interest.
