ECO-UNFPA-Iran Joint Study Tour for

 Health Authorities of ECO Member States

(9-12 December 2007- Tehran)

Within the broader context of South-South Cooperation, a four-day Study Tour was organized in close collaboration among ECO, United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and Ministry of Health and Medical Education of Iran on 9-12 December 2007. Other than host country-Islamic Republic of Iran-, five other member states namely Afghanistan, Kazakhstan, Pakistan, Tajikistan and Turkey participated in the Tour.   

 

The Study Tour was aimed at exchange of information and best practices among health authorities of ECO member states. During the tour, participants are familiarized with the achievements and experiences of Iran on health sector, specifically on Primary Health Care (PHC) System, Family Health System, Disease Management and Emergency Systems. The Study Tour included orientation sessions and field visits to primary health care clinics, fertility clinics, and factories.  

 

During the four day Study Tour, delegates visited Nour Saadat Health Center (Pre-marriage Counseling); Aburaihan pharmaceutical company[1] (Human and Veterinary Products/Contraceptives); Rouyan Institute[2] (Reproductive Biomedicine, Stem Cell Biology & Technology); West Tehran Health Center (Triangle Clinic/ Drop-in-Center); Iran Medical History Museum and Keyhan Bod Company [3] (Condom Manufacturing Company).       

 

Iran achievements on health including on pre-marriage counseling system, contraceptive methods and products and also infertility treatment was highly welcomed by and was useful for participants. 

 

The said Tour in general was highly welcomed by participants and proved to be very useful which received appreciation from all participants. During concluding session of the tour some member states proposed to arrange the same activity for member states in cooperation with international organizations including UNFPA. Iran (Tehran Medical University) also proposed to hold short term training courses for health authorities of member states including among others on Master of Public Health (MPH).
