The meeting of the Heads of Geological Surveys of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) started on 30-05-2007 at the ECO headquarters. It was inaugurated by H.E. Mr. Korehei, Deputy Minister of Industry and Mines and Head of Geological Surveys of Iran as well as by the ECO Secretary General. The delegations of seven member states namely Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Iran (host), Kazakhstan, Pakistan, Tajikistan and Turkey as well as ECO Secretariat, participated at the meeting.
The two-day event focused on consideration the formats for compilation of the Mineral Distribution Map of ECO region as well as for “ECO Geosciences Database”- the new projects for regional cooperation in the field of Minerals. During the meeting, the concerned Iranian authorities, nominated as Project Manager for the above projects, introduced to participants the above formats, including the necessary action and time frames for implementation of these projects, and arranged their visit to the National Geosciences Database and Geological Survey of Iran.
The meeting also reviewed the progress on the decisions of the previous deliberations, including the publishing of the ECO Mineral Data Booklet, as it was envisaged in the Plan of Action for cooperation among the ECO countries in the field of minerals. The main objectives of that Plan are: to coordinate and expedite the implementation of adopted cooperation programmes on minerals, develop and promote ways and means to expand efficient use of regions mineral resources and products through exchange of information, technology and mineral materials, etc.
