Press Release The First Meeting of the ECO Permanent Committee on Technology Transfer Center was held on 30-31 October, 2007 in Tehran with participation of the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Republic of Turkey. It was inaugurated by Dr. Mohsen Shaterzadeh, Deputy Minister for Economic and International Affairs from Ministry of Industries and Mines and Mr. Mehdi Mofidi, the President & Chairman of the Board of Directors of Industrial Development and Renovation Organization of Iran (IDRO). In their statements at the inauguration, they highlighted the importance of the transfer of technology in economic development. Dr. Serik Alybayev, the Deputy Secretary General of ECO Secretariat also made a statement.
Mrs. Fatemeh Ronasi, Technology Development and Innovation Director of Industrial Projects from IDRO, highlighted major issues relating to the Plan of Action. She called on the member states to participate actively in relevant events and requested ECO Secretariat to keep compile a list of National Focal Points in the field of technology transfer. Professor Dr. Bulent Olcay, the Advisor to the President of Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TUBITAK) gave an overview of the situation of transfer of technology in the Republic of Turkey. He also put forward proposals to promote cooperation among ECO member states in the field of technology transfer. The meeting called on member states to provide all relevant information on questionnaires prepared by IDRO to the ECO Secretariat not later than January 2008. It was proposed that the 2nd Permanent Committee meeting be held on the sidelines of 18th Regional Planning Council (RPC) scheduled for January/February 2008. The Republic of Turkey expressed its readiness to host the 3rd Permanent Committee meeting.
The participants visited Iran Khodro Powertrain Company (IPCO). The Chairman of IPCO stated that they had the necessary know-how to produce specific type of engine. He proposed to produce that engine jointly with Turkey. IPCO would prepare a project proposal before the 2nd Permanent Committee Meeting. That would be the first Technology Transfer exercise via ETT Center. |
