The First Task Force Meeting on Ecotourism was held on 16-17 December 2007 in Tehran, the capital city of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
The meeting was inaugurated by H.E. Dr. Delawar Najafi, Deputy Head of the Environment Department on Nature Environment & Biodiversity of the Islamic Republic of Iran. Dr. Sohrab Shahabi, Deputy Secretary General of the ECO Secretariat also welcomed the participants and delivered a short statement on behalf of ECO Secretariat.
The meeting reviewed and adopted the recommendations made by the Ecotourism Seminar (7-9 May 2007, Turkey) and emphasized on the importance of the implementation of these recommendations.
The delegation of the Islamic Republic of Iran proposed a Convention on Sustainable Nature Based Tourism as an instrument for governing the ecotourism in the ECO region. The meeting welcomed the initiative and agreed, in principle, with the idea of having a convention on the subject.
The Meeting also recognized the need for formulating a Plan of Action for developing cooperation in the field of Ecotourism in the ECO region. The next Meeting on Ecotourism would consider the draft Plan of Action.
