The High Level Experts Group/Trilateral Interim Committee Meeting to finalize the Articles of Agreement for the Establishment of ECO Reinsurance Company was held in Islamabad on May 14-15, 2007. The meeting was chaired by Mrs. Rukhsana Saleem, Chairperson of Pakistan Reinsurance Company Limited. All the three member states – Pakistan, Iran and Turkey – attended.
In her inaugural address, the Chairperson highlighted the importance of promoting Insurance Cooperation among the ECO Member States and called for the early establishment of ECO Reinsurance Company.
Director Trade and Investment of ECO Secretariat briefed the meeting about the recent developments and progress made by ECO in various fields of economic and trade cooperation.
During the two days of deliberations, the meeting finalized the Draft Articles of the Agreement which was initialed by the representatives of three Member States. It was agreed that the Articles of Agreement will be formally signed during the next Trilateral Interim Committee Meeting at the level of authorized officials of the three Member States. The Interim Committee is expected to meet prior to the 17th Meeting of the Council of Ministers later this year. The ECO Secretariat is working out the exact date in consultation with the three Member States.
