First Meeting of the Railway Committee of
the Transit Transport Coordination Council (TTCC)

The First Meeting of the Railway Committee of Transit Transport Coordination Council (TTCC) was held in March 14-15, 2007 in Ankara-Turkey and was hosted by Republic of Turkey. Delegations from all ECO Member States namely Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, Republic of Azerbaijan, Islamic Republic of Iran, Republic of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, Islamic Republic of Pakistan, Republic of Tajikistan, Republic of Turkey, Turkmenistan and Republic of Uzbekistan as well as the representatives of ECO Secretariat attended the Meeting.
The meeting was inaugurated by Mr. Ibrahim Chelik, Director of Operations Department of the Turkish Railways. In his statement, Mr. Chelik highlighted the importance of regional cooperation in the field of railways. He also stated that timely/efficient implementation of TTFA would help in resolving problems of tariff and time scheduling and will develop/institutionalize regional cooperation within the ECO framework.
Mr. Mohammad Mirzaei Kahagh, Director of ECO Transport & Communications, also delivered an opening statement. Mr. Mirzaei Kahagh informed the meeting that holding of the First Meeting of the Railway Committee of Transit Transport Coordination Council (TTCC) is a part of endeavours being made within the framework of the Transit Transport Framework Agreement (TTFA) for boosting regional cooperation in the field of transportation.
The meeting considered the structure, functions and future activities of the Railway Committee of the TTCC; the ways and means for effective implementation of the railway provisions of the TTFA, with a particular emphasis on Article 24 and Annexes I and III; the ways to enhance the railway systems of the Contracting Parties for Multimodal Transport; and priority railway infrastructure and other projects to be envisaged in the revised\extended Programme of Action for ECO Decade of Transport and Communications.
