The 33rd Session of the Islamic Conference of Foreign Ministers entitled “Session on Harmony of Rights, Freedoms and Justice” was held in Baku, Azerbaijan from 19-21 June 2006. On the invitation of H.E. Prof. Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, Secretary General of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC), the Secretary General, Economic Cooperation Organization, H.E. Mr. Askhat Orazbay along with Assistant Director (International Relations) participated in the subject conference.
The delegates from OIC member countries, observer states, from Muslim communities and minorities, international and regional organizations, subsidiary organs, specialized institutions of the OIC and affiliated institutions, Islamic Foundation and societies, invitees/guests from Council of Europe, GCC, UNHCR, FAO, UNESCO, ICRC, OSCE, IOM, WIPO, WHO, true representatives of Kashmiri people, MCB London, IIUM, Republic of Philippines and South Africa etc. participated in the conference. The list of participants is placed at annex-I.
On the sidelines of the opening of the conference a special ceremony was officially launched regarding 10 years Programme of Action adopted by the 3rd Extraordinary Islamic Summit last year. Prof. Ekmeleddin stressed the importance of this Programme and launched the starting of its execution.
The sessions emphasized necessity of development of political, trade-economic, cultural, scientific and other links among the OIC member countries. The projects being implemented in the frame of OIC were also in focus. A 10 year Plan of Activity of OIC was discussed, and necessity of strengthening of mutual cooperation was underlined.
In the concluding session, Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan and Secretary General of OIC held a briefing for media representatives.
