            The ECO Cultural Institute, in cooperation with the ECO Secretariat and the National Library and Archives of the Islamic Republic of Iran, organized a visit to the National Library of Islamic Republic of Iran on 29 May 2006.  The Ambassadors/Head of Missions from the ECO Member States in Tehran, delegates from Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran and ECO Secretary General along with his delegation were received by H.E. Mr. Ali Akbar Ashari, Cultural Adviser to the President of Islamic Republic of Iran and General Director of National Library and Archives Organization of Islamic Republic of Iran, and Dr. Mehdi Sanaei, President of ECO Cultural Institute.  The purpose of the visit was to exchange views and explore prospects for future collaboration among the national libraries and archives of the Member States.

             During the visit it was decided that the 1st meeting of the Heads of National Libraries of the ECO Member States will be held in August-September 2006 in Tehran, Iran.  The agenda of the meeting will be prepared by the ECO Cultural Institute in collaboration with National Library and Archives of Islamic Republic of Iran and ECO Secretariat.  Agenda of the meeting will be circulated to the ECO Member States well in advance for their views/comments/proposals etc.  The Ambassadors/Head of Missions of the Member States in Tehran were requested to ensure participation of the Heads of the National Libraries of the Member States for future cooperation among the National Libraries of the Member States.
