            The First Working Group Meeting for Implementation of Trans-Asian Railway Mainline was held in the ECO Secretariat/Tehran on June 19-20, 2006, by attendance of delegations of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Islamic Republic of Iran, Republic of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, Islamic Republic of Pakistan, and Republic of Turkey.

 
            The main technical issues relating to full operation of passenger and container trains between Istanbul and Almaty were discussed in this meeting where some decisions for solving the existing problems were also made. Determining fixed tariff rate along the whole route, proposal to apply similar carriage charge rates between Iran, Turkey and Turkmenistan in the other Member States, organizing a joint official team consisting of the concerned Member States and the ECO Secretariat for negotiation with Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan to encourage them for closer cooperation and further contribution for implementation of Trans-Asian Railway Mainline were among the decisions made by the ECO Member States in this Meeting. Kazakhstan accepted hosting the Second Meeting of the Working Group in Astana in year 2007.
