6th ECO Ministerial Meeting on Transport & Communications

            The 6th ECO  Ministerial  Meeting on Transport & Communications was held in Tehran  on  24-26  April, 2006.  The  Meeting  was  inaugurated  by  H.E. Dr. Parviz Davoodi, First Vice President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, and followed by the opening statements of H.E. Mr. Mohammad Rahmati, Minister of Roads & Transportation of the Islamic Republic of Iran, and H.E. Mr. Askhat Orazbay, Secretary General of ECO. In the Senior Officials’ Meeting prior to the Ministerial Meeting which was held on 24-25 April, 2006,  most important issues of cooperation in the field of Transport & Communications and the extent of implementation of the decisions made in the previous Ministerial Meeting in Kyrgyzstan in 2004 were discussed in detail. The conclusion of the discussions was reflected in a Draft Report which was then adopted by the Ministerial Meeting. Issues like Programme of Action for the ECO Decade of Transport and Communications (1998-2007), Trans-Asian Railway Main Line between Istanbul-Almaty, Transit Transport Framework Agreement (TTFA), postal and telecommunication activities, Marine Transport Cooperation were among the most important agenda items of this Meeting. At the end of the meeting a Tehran Communique in which the most important decisions and agreements of the Meeting were reflected was issued. It should be mentioned that in this important ECO Meeting relevant Ministers from Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Pakistan, Turkey, Tajikistan and Iran as well as Vice Ministers and high officials of the same Ministries from Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and representatives of IRU, UIC and IDB attended.
