H.E. Mr. Askhat Orazbay, ECO Secretary General called on H.E. Mr. Seyed Mohammad Rahmaty, Minister of Roads and Transportation of the Islamic Republic of Iran on 11 March 2006.
In this meeting, Mr. Orazbay, while extending his appreciation for hosting the 6th ECO Ministerial Meeting on Transport and Communications in Tehran on April 24-26, 2006, emphasized on the importance of this Meeting for making necessary decisions on transport and communications projects in the ECO region.
During the visit, the most important issues were discussed including; making necessary arrangements for holding the 6th Ministerial Meeting on Transport and Communications (24-26 April 2006), reviewing the latest status of ECO Container and Passenger Trains in Almaty – Istanbul route. In this meeting, early ratification of TTFA by Iran and expediting the establishment of Transit Transport Coordination Council (TTCC) were discussed and the Iranian Minister explained that the ratification process of TTFA was going on in Iranian Parliament and it would be accelerated to the extent possible.
Mr. Rahmaty stated his intention to widen and deepen already existing good relations with ECO member states and emphasized on the necessity for participation of the respected Minister of the ECO Member States in the aforesaid Ministerial Meeting.
