ECO Secretary General Met the Press

On the occasion of the 16th meeting of the ECO Regional Planning Council (RPC) H.E. Orazbay, ECO Secretary General, had a Press Conference on Saturday January 28, 2006.

 

Representatives of Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB), Islamic Republic of Iran New Agency (IRNA), Iranian Student News Agency (ISNA) and daily newspapers namely, Iran Daily, Sharq, Etela’at, Jahan-e- Eghtesad and Asre-e- Eghtesad attended this Press Conference.

 

At the beginning, the Secretary General gave some information regarding the Regional Planning Council and its mandate that was vested to it according to the Treaty of Izmir, the basic Charter of the Economic Cooperation Organization.  He, then, stressed on the activities of the ECO and development of existing projects being implemented in the ECO region and invited the press to cover the inauguration session of the 16th Meeting of the RPC which will be held on January 30- February 2, 2006 at the ECO Secretariat and will be inaugurated by the Minister of Industry of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

 

All 10 ECO Member States will participate in the 16th RPC Meeting in which 7 technical committees on 1) Trade and Investment, 2) Energy and Environment, 3) Sustainable Development and Human Resource Development, 4) Transport and Communication, 5) Agriculture and Industry, 6) Economic Research and Statistics, and 7) International relations will thoroughly discus the relevant issues and challenges in front of the ECO such as ECO Free Trade Agreement (ECOTA), ECO Vision 2015 which is the guideline for ECO perspective, Transit Trade Framework Agreement (TTFA) and other related issues.

 

After the Briefing, ECO Secretary General responded to the questions raised by the representative of the Press regarding the ECO Achievements/impediments and implementation of the projects.

 

The Secretary General also gave an exclusive interview with the IRIB.
