ECO Secretariat, Tehran, November 10, 2005 Press Release Second Meeting of ECO Postal Authorities was held on 8-9 November, 2005, at the venue of ECO Secretariat in Tehran by participation of delegations from the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, Republic of Azerbaijan, Islamic Republic of Iran, Republic of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, Islamic Republic of Pakistan, Republic of Tajikistan and Republic of Turkey. The Meeting was inaugurated by Dr. Mohammed Pour, Deputy Minister for Education, Research and International Affairs of the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology of the Islamic Republic of Iran. The Meeting discussed various technical issues relating to postal cooperation among the ECO Member States and explored ways for expansion of the cooperations in this regard. The result of the discussions on the decisions made in previous meeting in Kyrgyz Republic in 2004 and implementation of those decisions was initiating new mechanisms for commencing the made decisions. Issuing joint stamps and holding philatelic exhibitions, taking more advantage of existing postal training centres within the ECO region, establishing a database for collection and exchange of information on postal products and technologies introduced by the Member States and exchanging experiences on privatization, liberalization, commercialization and corporatization on postal activities were among issues discussed in the Meeting and proper solutions for commencing those and other projects were initiated. The Meeting decided to hold the 3rd Meeting of ECO Postal Authorities in Istanbul/Turkey after Turkish delegation agreed to host the next meeting. |
