100th Meeting of the Council of Permanent Representatives (CPR) of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) is being hosted by the Islamic Republic of Iran on June 24-25, 2005, in Qeshm Island. The Ambassadors of ECO Member States to the Islamic Republic of Iran who are also concurrently accredited as Permanent Representatives to ECO Secretariat and Deputy Foreign Minister for Economic Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, H.E. Mr. Ali Majedi, will participate in the meeting. The ECO Secretary General, H.E. Mr. Askhat Orazbay, along with the relevant staff of ECO Secretariat, will also participate in the meeting.
The Council of Permanent Representatives is a permanent body which, except when the Council of Ministers is in session, is responsible, on behalf and in the name of the Council of Ministers, for carrying out its policies, for formulating issues requiring decisions by the Member States and for taking appropriate steps on matters connected with the implementation of the decisions of the Council of Ministers
The aforesaid CPR meeting will, inter alia, discuss matters relating to the forthcoming 15th Meeting of the Council of Ministers (COM) scheduled to be held in Astana, Republic of Kazakhstan, on 20th August 2005, designation of coordinating countries for implementation of important agreements/projects of ECO, issue of grant of Specialized Agency/Regional Institution status to ECO-Consultancy & Engineering Company (ECO-CEC).
During this special occasion, the head of Qeshm Free Economic Zone will welcome the Ambassadors and Permanent Representatives of ECO Member States to the Island and brief the meeting about the position, potentials, capacities and economic activities going on in the Island. He will also invite the ECO Member States to benefit from the advantages of the Qeshm Free Zone.
