OIC Secretary General Visits ECO Secretary General

            Mr. Askhat Orazbay, Secretrary General of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) met with Dr. Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, Secretary General of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) on Wednesday, 02 March 2005 at the ECO Secretariat.

During the meeting different issues on the promotion of cooperation between the two organizations were raised.  Economic cooperation and reconstruction of Afghanistan were on the top of their discussion.

ECO Secretary General, while presenting brief information on cooperation between Islamic Development Bank (IDB) and ECO, expressed ECO willingness to have full cooperation with OIC in economic issues and projects of the mutual concerns.  He further continued that reconstruction of Afghanistan is the ECO most immediate concerns and ECO has been successful to establish a Special Fund for Reconstruction of Afghanistan.

OIC Secretary General reciprocated his organization readiness to cooperate fully with ECO and different institution of OIC such as Casa Blanca Center (Trade Promotion Center), Ankara Center (Economic Statistics and Research) and OIC Chamber of Commerce in Karachi are ready to extend their full cooperation with ECO.  He also invited ECO Secretariat to participate at the annual meeting OIC COMSEC (Social and Economic Commission of OIC) which is the highest economic body of the organization.  He welcomed ECO initiative to consider ways of joint actions on reconstruction of Afghanistan.
