ECO Senior Officials Meet in Dushanbe

          The Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) Senior Official Meeting (SOM) is going to be held in Dushanbe, the Republic of Tajikistan on September 10-11, 2004. His Excellency Mr. Serajodin Aslov Deputy Foreign Minister of the Republic of Tajikistan will chair and inaugurate the meeting, which will also be participated by deputies foreign minister/ representatives of the ten Member States. H.E. Mr. Askhat Orazbay, the Secretary General of ECO will also take part in the Meeting. The Senior Official Meeting will deliberate, inter alia, on issues such as the work plan of ECO, reports and recommendations emanating from sectoral Ministerial meetings, follow up of the implementation of decisions of the previous Ministerial meetings as well as preparation for 14^th COM and 8^th Summit.

          The SOM is also expected to prepare the Draft Agenda for the 14^th Council of Ministers (COM), which will be held on September 12, 2004 in Dushanbe, Republic of Tajikistan.

          The ECO consists of Transitional Islamic State of Afghanistan, Republic of Azerbaijan, Islamic Republic of Iran, Republic of Kazakhstan, Republic of Kyrgyzstan, Islamic Republic of Pakistan, Republic of Tajikistan, Republic of Turkey, Turkmenistan and Republic of Uzbekistan. During the past twelve years, the organization has achieved considerable progress in effecting economic cooperation among its ten member states, which share common social, historical, Cultural, religious backgrounds and heritage.
