Azeri Foreign Minister visits ECO Secretariat

            His Excellency Mr. Elmar Mamedyarov, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, who is on an official visit to Tehran, visited ECO Secretariat on 31^st July 2004.

            During his discussions with the ECO Secretary General Mr. Askhat Orazbay, Mr. Mamedyarov stated that his country attached great importance to the Economic Cooperation Organization which had a great potential to improve the quality of life of the people of this region. He recalled that ECO was the first international organization which his country had joined immediately after independence. The two officials exchanged views on matters of mutual interests including the forthcoming 8^th Summit meeting due to be held on 14^th September in Dushanbe.

            The Secretary General briefed the Azeri Foreign Minister on the ongoing activities of the organization as well as the important events that have taken place since his assumption of the office of Secretary General. Later on, addressing the Directing Staff of the organization, Mr. Mamedyarov reiterated his country’s resolve for further cooperation with ECO.
