the China-Middle East-Europe-Corridor

              The First meeting of the Expert Working Group to fine-tune draft Action Plan for revitalizing and operating the China-Middle East-Europe-Corridor including a time framework for its execution was held in Tehran on May 9-10, 2004. The meeting was chaired by Mr. Mehran Jadidian, Director General, Commerce and Marketing Department in the Iranian Railways. The delegations from Afghanistan, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Turkey and Uzbekistan as well as from the ECO Secretariat participated in the meeting. The meeting discussed the possibilities of the revitalization of the China-Middle East-Europe corridor for railway freight transport  with a view to make it more efficient.

 

            The meeting decided to set up a Working Group of Experts that would be mandated to study the bottlenecks experienced by member states in the operationalization of corridor such as complicated administrative formalities, official and bureaucratic barriers in transportation departments and disharmony of the rules, procedures and regulations of transit transport among the member states. The Working Group would submit its recommendations to overcome the above mentioned bottlenecks.
