ECO SG Mr. Askhat Orazbay Calls on Mr. Hamid Karzai President of Transitional Islamic State of Afghanistan

            In this major meeting, ECO Secretary General stated that he is taking the opportunity to introduce himself to President Karzai as the new ECO Secretary General and also informed that President Karzai was the sixth President called on so far by the Secretary General.

Mr. Orazbay further added that reconstruction of Afghanistan is among the job priorities of the Organization and although there are budgetary and financial limitations but since most of the ECO member states are as well the neighbours of Afghanistan, they are making serious efforts to accumulate resources to conduct different projects in Afghanistan. He also briefed President Karzai on the upcoming investment meetings in Kabul and explained that in the recent 12 years, since the expansion of the Organization, this is the first time that Kabul is hosting one of the major events of ECO. He also formally invited President Kazai to attend the upcoming ECO Summit and as well requested that since Afghanistan enjoys a very good situation as a matter of transit trade, so to join TTFA and ratify it in due course.

            In return, President Karzai expressed his wish that his country would contribute to the future meetings of the Organization and ensured ECO Secretary General about the active participation of Afghanistan in the upcoming meetings. He also stressed that transit trade, transport and commerce are among the major national interests of the country so to eradicate poverty in Afghanistan and duly in the ECO region.
