ECO Secretary General bid farewell to Minister of Economics of Iran | |

The out going ECO Secretary General, Seyed Mojtaba Arastou, upon the termination of his tenure met with the Minister of Economics and Financial Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Mr. Tahmasb Mazaheri. Mr. Arastou while giving a report on the latest activities and achievements of the Organization, stated that during the last one year the role of ECO Member States in the activities of the Organization and some major fields of cooperation are approved by Council of Ministers, namely Agriculture and Environment, and recently it is approved that the 1st Ministerial Meeting on Economics and Finance may be held in the near future. This shows the strong will of the Member States in expanding their cooperation in the field. Mr. Arastou while emphasizing the importance of ECOTA, added that ECO tries to make a closer relationship with Monetary and financial organizations, so to change the economic situation of the region into a better one. He referred to the cooperation among the regional organizations of Africa and Asia and added that the Member States should move in a pace that they would reach the level of the other regional organizations. Mr. Mazaheri appreciated the efforts of ECO Secretary General and stressed that in order to develop the economies of the region there should be more efforts on the part of regional cooperation and considering the potentials of the region we may establish a strong economic block. He welcomed the close cooperation of ECO with other international organizations and added that this shall be continued during the next ECO Secretary General. He also hoped that the 1st Ministerial Meeting on Economics and Finance would be held very soon.
