ECO Secretary General visits Afghanistan

Based on a formal invitation forwarded by H. E. Dr. Abdullah, Foreign Minister of Afghanistan, H. E. Seyed Mojtaba Arastou, ECO Secretary General is going to pay a visit to Afghanistan for three day, on Thursday 13 February 2003. In this visit he would meet with the senior Afghan officials.

This formal visit is in line with the follow up of the decisions of the 7^th ECO Summit Meeting and the reference items of the Istanbul Declaration. In the said meeting and Declaration the issue of assistance of ECO in the process of reconstruction of Afghanistan is strongly emphasized and also it has been decided to establish a fund called “Afghanistan Reconstruction Fund” in order to attract financial assistance in this regard.

Mr. Arastou in this visit would meet with H. E. President Hamid Karzai, several Ministers and other senior officials of the Afghan Government, in order to explore the reconstruction priorities in Afghanistan and as well highlight the areas of cooperation with the country in the frame work of ECO.
