ECO Secretary General Confers with the UNESCAP Executive Secretary | |
Press Release H.E. Seyed Mojtaba Arastou, ECO Secretary General, upon an invitation made by H.E. Mr. Kim Hak-su, the Executive Secretary of UNESCAP, attended the 5th Asian Pacific Population Conference of the United Nations. In the meeting that was inaugurated by the statement of H.E. the Prime Minister of Thailand, ECO Secretary General in a statement addressed the population issues of ECO Member States. On the sideline of the said meeting, Mr. Arastou and Mr. Hak-su reviewed the current issues of concern to both organizations. Mr. Arastou, while welcoming the existing cooperation among the two organizations, asked for the expansion of such cooperation. He also referred to the decisions of the ECO 7th Summit Meeting that emphasize on the expansion of the cooperation of ECO and other International Organizations. Also he recalled the decisions and achievements made through the 1st ECO Ministerial Meeting on Environment held in Tehran in this week, in which the representative of UNESCAP also attended, and requested for the assistance of ESCAP in implementation of the Environmental Plan of Action of ECO Member States, approved by the said meeting. In return, Mr. Hak-su referring to the priority areas of ECO namely Environment, energy, trade and investment, transportation and communication confirmed the readiness of UNESCAP to cooperate and assist ECO on these areas. | |
