The 4^th Working Group of ECO Senior Officials convened in Istanbul

            The 4^th Meeting of Working Group of ECO Senior Officials was held in Istanbul to take up important issues regarding the main activities of the Organization. The 12^th Meeting of ECO Council of Ministers and the 7^th ECO Summit Meeting in Istanbul will follow the Meeting.

            In this meeting, H. E. Seyed Mojtaba Arastou, ECO Secretary General, stated that the meeting is great means for raising the effectiveness of the organization. He further added that through holding such meetings the concept/strategy papers regarding Implementation of Economic Cooperation Strategy for the ECO, and the role of ECO in Reconstruction of Afghanistan, as well as the follow up of the actionable points contained in the 11^th COM.

            Mr. Arastou stressed that the success of ECO as a regional organization solely depends on the political and financial support of the Member States and added that the recommendations of the previous WGSO meetings regarding speeding up the implementation of ECOTA, early operationalization of Transit Transport Framework Agreement (TTFA), and Transit Trade Agreement (TTA), are noteworthy.

            ECO Secretary General also referring to the close cooperation of ECO and other regional and international organizations, appealed for a regular mechanism of consultation with them in order to realize the proposals and projects suggested by the Member States.
